Originally, there was no custom of giving out candy in Japan, but in recent years, the Shibuya Scramble Crossing in Tokyo has become lively with large-scale costume events.

Tracing back its history, it all started in the 1980s when local shopping streets around Shibuya began organizing costume parades with the hope of making it a popular autumn event.

Nowadays, people often dress up in various costumes such as police officers, nurses, Dracula, anime characters, and celebrities.
