Maeda has joined Nagano Prefecture in a Biodiversity Conservation Partnership Agreement.

The purpose of this agreement is to preserve the Nagano Prefecture's rich natural environment and to promote conservation efforts for the prefecture's official bird, the rock ptarmigan (known in Japan as the "raichou"). The agreement is for a term of two years, from June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2028.

Nagano Prefecture is blessed with a diverse natural environment, including its majestic mountain landscapes, which provide a high level of biodiversity. At the same time, many plant and animal species face the threat of extinction due to climate change and changes in their habitats. The rock ptarmigan is classified as an endangered species. Protection is a critical issue for these birds.

Our company will colalborate with Nagano Prefectture to promote biodiversity conservation. We will focus on the following:

  • Supporting the protection of the rock ptarmigan through donations
  • Employee participation in environment conservation activities
  • Outreach and raising awareness of biodiversity conservation

We will continue to value coexisting with local communities and the natural environment, and we will actively pursue initiatives to build a sustainable society.

⭐What is a ptarmigan?

  • Ptarmigans are birds that live in alpine regions at elevations of 2,200m or higher.
  • Their plumage changes with the seasons. In summer, it is a mottled brown, black, and white. In winter, it turns pure white to blend in with the snowy landscape.
  • Since there are few natural predators in the alpine regions, they tend to be relatively unafraid of humans.
  • They are rare birds that can sometimes be seen up close while hiking.
  • They are the official bird of Nagano Prefecture and are a beloved symbol of biodiversity conservation.
